Herb garden in Mattenhaus
The fragrant herbs and edible flowers are an integral part of the menu at the Hotel-Landgasthof Kreuz. It all started 13 years ago when Horst’s sister Sandra, converted their grandmother’s garden into a treasured herb garden. The family Schmidt is particularly proud of the unusual herbs that grow there and which then appear on the menu each month under the motto “Herb of the Month” and from there to your plate.
Herb days in Mattenhaus
From this tradition, the “Herb days in Mattenhaus” emerged and has become well established over the last 11 years in the “delicacies scene”. At the beginning of June, both regulars and newcomers are surprised with a special herb menu for a week each year. Guests who want to experience fresh herbs in nature are also warmly invited to visit the hotel’s own herb garden during that week. On two Sundays, Father Gérard and Father Fritz from Brunnenhof in Ebenweiler give advice on how to use the spices and medicinal plants, which can be bought on site.
Herb evenings in Mattenhaus 2015
Every third Wednesday of the month from April to October several dozen restaurant guests enjoyed the special herb evenings at Landgasthof Kreuz. From 6:00 pm Father Gérard led the guests through the hotel’s own herb garden. The visitors were then received in the restaurant with a herbal aperitif followed by a special three course menu with fresh herbs of the month. This tradition will be continued in Spring 2016.
